The Red Umbrella Charity Walk, held in collaboration with the Coalition of Sickle Cell NGOs in Lagos State, with the theme “The Power of Hope: Step up for Sickle Cell”.
The remarkable walk traversed through the heart of Surulere Local Government – James Robertson – Masha – Adelabu – Babs Animashaun – Bode Thomas – Adeniran Ogunsanya – Shitta, culminating at the premises of Surulere Local Government. The walk was graced by the presence of Mr. Olamilekan Agbeleshe, professionally known as Laycon, a proud ambassador of the Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria. Laycon not only flagged off the walk but also participated, infusing his star power into this meaningful cause.
This collective stride brought together individuals from all walks of life, united in advocating for the formal recognition of sickle cell disorder as a pivotal public health issue in Nigeria. The event underlined the necessity for more comprehensive interventions from all levels of government across the nation.
The day’s events were not limited to the walk alone; the occasion coincided with a blood donation drive. Participants were provided with T-shirts, face caps, and iconic red umbrellas, creating a unified visual statement. Upon reaching the destination at Surulere Local Government premises, attendees enjoyed moments of respite, refreshments, and even took part in engaging fun games. The successful execution of the event was made possible through the dedicated contributions of volunteers, including Sickle Cell Club Coordinators and the invaluable support of Emergency Response, who provided essential ambulance services.
